My Favourite Cookbooks

These are some of my all time favourite cookbooks, which I will update as I add to my collection.....although I am fast running out of room for where to put them!! Please feel free to share your favourite cookbooks with me and why they are your favourite, and I will post them to the page.

The Hairy Bikers' Best-Loved Recipes. Mums Still Know Best!

If you loved the TV series, then you will definitely love this cook book from the BBC series. Filled with delicious recipes such as 'Really Rich Oxtail Stew' (YUM!), 'Porkholt' (Hungarian meat stew), 'Mud Pie' (Tastes as good as it looks!), and 'Luscious Lemon Swiss Roll'......I could go on and on! This book is definitely taking place at the front of the book shelf; with so many crowd pleasing recipes, plus its also really interesting to hear the mum's stories behind the recipes in the book.

The Good Housekeeping Step-by-Step Cook Book

This is a book I inherited from my mum and dad and has served me well over the years! It is one of those books that you go back to again and again, and if you're searching for a particular recipe, you can almost guarantee it will be in this book! Specifically, mine is the 1980 edition, but I also received the 2011 edition for Christmas, which is just as good. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who likes classic and traditional cooking, as not only is it filled with mouth watering and practical recipes, but it also has pages and pages full of tips and how to's that are well worth a read.

The Cook's Scrapbook (Reader's Digest)

This book was given to me as a Christmas present and I absolutely love it! I refer to it time and time again, as I can always find what I'm looking for in here. I love traditional cooking and recipes from the past, so the front cover had me hooked from the start....'Secrets from our Grandmothers' kitchens......' Beautifully laid out with fairly easy to follow instructions and mouth watering pictures, the snippets of old fashioned adverts for products, along with handy tips and history make for a brilliant read, as well as delicious recipes such as 'Aunt Daisy's De Luxe Fish Cakes', 'Oxtail Braised with Red Wine', and 'Mrs Marshall's Very Conservative Apple Pie'.

Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking

Don't get me wrong, I don't like to cheat at anything, especially cooking, but I must admit I was curious about this one as it had such a big debate when it was released! I do like Delia, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book as it has some great time saving recipes that still taste delicious, and if you still can't stand to cheat - you don't have to - just use the idea and make your own! My favourite recipes from this book are; 'Bonfire Steaks with Mexican Tomato Salsa', 'Good Old Shepherd's Pie', and 'Boeuf Bourguignon Easy'. I am yet to try her Chocolate Cake (made with Mashed Potato........) - might need a little convincing on that one!!!

Tana Ramsay's Real Family Food

As I am a Gordon fan, I was quite tempted with this one, to see what his other half had to offer. This is a real family book, with full page photo's of the recipes, as well as their family. I think this book is really fun and the recipes are very easy to follow, with simple instructions. My favourite recipes from this book are; 'Bacon & Egg Muffins', 'Chilli Beef Stir-Fry' and 'Bakewell Slice'. (Although there are many more - so difficult to just choose a few!)

The Masterchef Cookbook

This one was a recent Christmas present, bought for me because I love the TV programme and watch it religiously when its on - although most of the time I do shout at the TV, but hey, don't we all!!! The great thing about this book, is that the recipes are from the contestants - nothing more frustrating when you see something being cooked on the TV and then can't get hold of the recipe! I haven't managed to cook any of the lovely recipes from this book, but give me time.......I quite like the look of trying 'Rack of Lamb with Parsnip Mash and a Red Wine Sauce' and 'Chocolate & Orange Roulade'.

Gregg's Favourite Puddings

From Masterchef to Gregg Wallace - I love Gregg for his passion about puddings! You can always tell when he's going to like something as his eyes bulge right out of their sockets! I think that anyone would fly through Masterchef if they just kept producing puddings! Always makes me smile, so you can imagine my delight when I unwrapped this one at Christmas also! My favourite puddings from this one (so far) are; 'Chocolate Fudge Cake', 'Triple Chocolate Brulee' and 'Chocolate Puddle Pudding' (Yes, I am a little bit of a choc-a-holic!)

Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape

I am a big Gordon Fan and absolutely loved this programme on the TV, so had to get the book! So many mouth watering recipes for Indian cookery, and I love the fact that he got back to the roots of the dishes and was great to learn about where our favourite Indian classics originated from. With bright and colourful pictures of the food, and also Gordon's trip to India, its a great book just to sit and flip through on a Sunday afternoon (and then want to go and create some of the lovely dishes in the kitchen!). Gordon also gives tips and advice if you can't get a certain ingredient, what you can use instead to achieve the same result, plus explaining what some of the lesser known ingredients are, and what they are used for. My favourite recipes from this book are: 'Butter Chicken', 'Bengali Prawn Curry' and 'Cauliflower Tandoori'.
